Whenever you add a domain as hosted in some account, you usually set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that specific company. On their end, 3 records are set up automatically when the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain name where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they show the server that deals with the e-mails for that particular domain address. The site and the email hosting are generally considered to be one thing, while they are in fact two different services. Having separate records for them will permit you to have them with different providers if you would like. For instance, some new company can have outstanding uptime for your site, but you may not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain to the former and MX records to have the emails with the second, you can get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you wish to open a site or send an email - either way, the provider whose name servers are used for the domain will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you have set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you'll see the needed site or your e-mail will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting account from our company and you wish to move either your site or your emails to another provider, it is going to take you literally just two mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia Control Panel offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you are going to be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the default two, it will not take more than a couple of mouse clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a particular MX record will have. The propagation of every record that you change or create will not take more than a few hours and if needed, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will remain active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and changing the A or MX records for any of your domain names or subdomains is incredibly easy if you buy a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are handled through our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on any of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record is as simple as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even when you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not encounter any troubles if you decide to point your site or e-mails to an alternative service provider while keeping the second service with our company. If necessary, you may also create additional MX records and set a certain priority in accordance with the recommendations of the new provider.
