There are several ways to point a domain name to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by setting up a CNAME record. If you own a domain and you've set up a website using some online service which supplies you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that redirects to subdomain.provider.com. What you'll achieve as a result is that www.your-domain.com will be in the Internet browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned website from the servers of the third-party provider. You should know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain may have will stop functioning, so you cannot have both a CNAME record pointing to one company and working email addresses with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and often additional configuration may be needed with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting plan through our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it will take you just a few mouse clicks to make it happen. You can access the DNS records for all domains and subdomains hosted within your account through the Hepsia Control Panel offered with each and every plan and adding a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which will be CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the modification. If you've never added this kind of record before, you will discover a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have built an Internet site using another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, for instance Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of clicks inside your CP.
